CloudPointe Connect for Microsoft SharePoint
CloudPointe Connect is Software as a Service (SaaS) that lets you embed document sharing and collaboration inside your own website or web application. CloudPointe is unique because you are not required to copy or migrate your files from where they are currently stored. CloudPointe connects to your documents and files where they are located, on FTP, Amazon S3, Google Docs, Microsoft SharePoint or others. You can then share your files by simply adding the e-mail addresses of those you want to have access to them. CloudPointe will send e-mail messages to each person and give them instructions on how to access the files.
CloudPointe Connect for Microsoft SharePoint allows you to use your Microsoft SharePoint server as a secure extranet document workspace. Share and collaborate on documents from
your SharePoint server inside and outside the enterprise.
How it works
In CloudPointe Connect, you add a SharePoint Site Connection to your server by entering your hostname, username, password and windows domain. CloudPointe will automatically create a shared folder, to which you can add people (by email address) who should be allowed to have access to your files.
When you add people to your share, they will receive an email message with information they need to access the shared documents and files.
Optionally you can specify a specific folder to share so that users can only access documents from that individual folder.
After you have set any security settings you prefer, you and your users can upload, download, preview, edit, print and comment on any files in the shared folder. All changes that are made are saved back to your SharePoint server so that you still have full control.
CloudPointe Connect hooks into SharePoint’s check-in, check-out and revision control. When you allow share users to edit files, they participate in your workflow, so when they check-out a document, it is also locked in SharePoint for local users.

To make it even easier for your users, you can embed the shared folder right into any website or web application with a few lines of code.
CloudPointe can connect to your server using NTLMv2 authentication to ensure the highest level of security, but is also compatible with other authentication methods.
Complexities with SharePoint External Access
To give external access to your SharePoint files typically means a SIGNIFICANT amount of work for the IT Staff:
- Firewall provisioning
- Active Directory setup
- SharePoint client licenses and setup
- SharePoint security settings
- Tear down of each of the above items to revoke access
